Lady Bears roll past Central in 3

LITTLE CYPRESS — After a nice run through the first half of District 20-4A play, the Little Cypress-Mauriceville Lady Bears got off to a good start to start the second half Tuesday night as they easily swept the Beaumont Central Lady Jaguars 25-9, 25-12, 25-22 at The Bear Cave Tuesday night.

The win pushes the Lady Bears to 7-1 in district, just a game back of the first-place Lumberton Lady Raiders.

Sarah Woods paced the Lady Bears in kills, posting 14. Malayzia Winbush had a superb all-around performance with 12 kills, 11 service points and four aces.

Maddie Frey provided plenty of excitement with her 18 points, three aces and eight kills.

Every Lady Bear contributed in a nice way.

Jade Piper set up the offense well and had 13 points and an ace while Dayja Arnold provided a slew of digs and had three points.

Kinsey Tanner contributed three kills while Makenzie Hearn had two and Savannah Borel, Emalee Carlton and Darby Strother had one apiece with Strother adding two points and an ace. Kelsey Crowe also had three points.

The Lady Bears easily dominated Games One and Two and led the second one by as much as 16-1.

Central refueled in Game Three behind the powerful hitting of Alex Hailey. Central led by as much as 11-6 and led 22-19 late before the Lady Bears closed the deal with six consecutive points.

Hailey tied Woods in kill honors as she also finished with 14. Jada Brown had three kills while Iranisha O’Brien and Talitha Savoy had two apiece.

Hope Johnson served up six points for the Lady Jags while D’Alexis Marshall had five and O’Brien added three.

The Lady Bears will make a trip to Nederland Friday to take on the Lady Bulldogs and will return home next Tuesday to host the Vidor Lady Pirates.
