Lady Cards spank H-J, win 21-3A crown

SOUR LAKE — All the Bridge City Lady Cardinals had to do Friday night was to defeat the Hardin-Jefferson Lady Hawks to seal the District 21-3A softball district title.

Well, the Lady Hawks offered little resistance as the Lady Cardinals strolled to a 15-1 victory in five innings at Lady Hawks Field to finish a superb 11-1 in 21-3A competition.

Kellyn Cormier worked all five innings for the Lady Cardinals on the mound, allowing just two hits while striking out four.

Kaleigh Carter was 2-for-4, drove in a run and scored another. Faith Kaufman was 2-for-4 with a RBI and a run scored. Bailee Bacon was 2-for-4 with a RBI and scored three times.

Kasey Frederick had a double and two RBI. Anne Borg had a triple, two RBI and scored. Kelsey Fults had a hit and two RBI. Bailey Thibodeaux had a hit, brought in a run and also scored. Hanna Carpenter scored three runs and Hanna Faulk crossed home twice to aid the Lady Cardinal arsenal.

The Lady Cardinals will have a bye in the Class 3A Region III playoffs next week. Both second-place SIlsbee (10-2) and third-place Orangefield (9-3) will be in the playoffs next week.

Vidor girls

VIDOR — The Vidor Lady Pirates will enter the Class 4A Region III softball playoffs as the No. 4 seed out of District 20-4A despite being tied with Nederland and Port Neches-Groves for second. The Lady Pirates (21-9) finished 10-4 in 20-4A play along with Nederland and PN-G.

The positions were decided by the head-to-head records for all three teams.

PN-G took the second seed by sweeping Nederland and going 1-1 against Vidor to finish 3-1. Nederland took third by sweeping Vidor and getting swept by PN-G to finish 2-2. That left Vidor with a 1-3 record against the two Mid-County teams.

Vidor will now play state-ranked No. 1 and 19-4A champion Barbers Hill in the bidistrict round next week.

20-4A champion Little Cypress-Mauriceville (27-5, 13-1) will take on 19-4A fourth-place team Dayton in the bidistrict round.
