Baseball districts crank up; Softball teams face big tilts

ORANGE — Orange County baseball teams will dive into district play this week during Spring Break while most of the local softball squads will be participating in their third and fourth district games.

In District 20-4A softball play, the LC-M Lady Bears are definitely carrying some momentum going into sprig break week after dominating rivals Port Neches-Groves 7-2 and Nederland 7-1 last week to improve to a perfect 3-0 in district in the early going.

The Lady Bears will visit Beaumont Ozen tonight and will play host to Lumberton on Friday.

The Vidor Lady Pirates improved to 2-1 in 20-4A play last Friday with a 5-3 victory over a much-improved Lumberton squad. The Lady Pirates will visit Beaumont Central today before facing a big home tilt against Port Neches-Groves Friday.

In District 21-3A, the Bridge City Lady Cardinals have jumped out of the gates with a 2-0 start after defeating West Orange-Stark 16-1 and Orangefield 8-5.

The Lady Cardinals and Silsbee Lady Tigers are both 2-0 in the early going.

Bridge City will take its act on the road tonight at Buna and will have a bye on Friday.

The Orangefield Lady Bobcats (1-1) will look to bounce back from their loss to Bridge City when they host Silsbee tonight in a nice battle. The Lady Bobcats venture to Hamshire-Fannett Friday.

WO-S battled defending 21-3A champion Silsbee well last Friday but couldn’t get the bats going as the Lady Mustangs fell 4-0. The Lady Mustangs will look to make waves with their bats today when they welcome in Hamshire-Fannett.

In District 21-3A baseball play, the Bridge City Cardinals will once again look to defend their crown as they travel to Buna tonight to face a proud Cougar program that has been excellent in the Class 2A ranks the last several years.

The Cardinals are coming off two straight wins at the Jasper Tournament. They defeated Huntington 13-4 and downed Huntsville 4-3 after falling in their first two games last Thursday.

The Orangefield Bobcats will start 21-3A play by playing host to the Silsbee Tigers while the West Orange-Stark Mustangs welcome in Hamshire-Fannett.

The Mustangs won three out of four games at the Kirbyville Tournament, defeating Beaumont Central 16-1, Beaumont Ozen 2-1 and Deweyville 7-2 and falling to Silsbee 4-0.

In District 20-4A action tonight, the Little Cypress-Mauriceville Bears will make the long trek to Livingston. The Bears won two out of four games at the New Caney Tournament. LC-M defeated Reagan 10-0 and Deer Park 2-1 and fell to No. 1 Class 4A-ranked Tomball 13-3 and Kingwood Park 2-1. The Vidor Pirates will welcome in the Nederland Bulldogs.

Baseball games Friday will include PN-G at LC-M; Woodville at Bridge City; Orangefield at Hamshire-Fannett; WO-S at Hardin-Jefferson; and Vidor at Ozen.
