Fraccastoro, Lady Bears swat Nederland

LITTLE CYPRESS —  Let’s just call it a good week for the Little Cypress-Mauriceville Lady Bear softball team.

After dropping Port Neches-Groves 7-2 on Tuesday, the Lady Bears responded with another huge District 20-4A win Friday night by dismantling the Nederland Lady Bulldogs 7-1 at Lady Bear Field, two wins that definitely give them some momentum heading into the remainder of the district schedule.

Taylor Fraccastoro had a three-run home run in the first inning that definitely sparked the victory and she also added a double and scored.

Senior ace Raven Cole was once again masterful on the hill for most of the night for LC-M (17-4, 3-0).

Cole went all seven innings, allowing just three hits while striking out 13 and walking three.

Makayla Kelly absorbed the loss for the Lady Bulldogs (14-6, 2-1). She went six innings, allowing 10 hits while striking out six and walking none.

Fraccastoro drilled a Kelly offering over the centerfield fence for the three-run bomb in the bottom of the first that definitely gave the Lady Bears the momentum in the early going.

The Lady Bears did all their damage with two outs.

Kassie James reached after an error at shortstop and Cole reached with a single to left as Lady Bulldog leftfielder Tori Cooper misjudged it, then Fraccastoro timed Kelly perfectly for the three-run crush.

The Lady Bears tacked on two more runs with two outs in the second inning.

Morgan Babineaux ripped a leadoff double to right and moved to third off a Angel Villanueva sacrifice bunt.

Mikaela Stegall reached after getting hit by a Kelly pitch and Kaleigh Roy, who was 2-for-4, made Nederland pay as she pounded out a two-run double to center to up the lead to 5-0.

Nederland snared a run in the top half of the fourth frame.

Kelsey Beard roped a two-out double that bounced off the centerfield wall. She moved to third on a wild pitch and scurried in to score on another wild pitch to make it 5-1.

LC-M upped the margin to 7-1 in the bottom of the fifth.

Fraccastoro roped a one-out double to right and scored off a Chelsea McLain double down the leftfield line. McLain, who was 2-for-3, would eventually score off a wild Kelly pitch.

Nederland’s Tori Cooper had a leadoff triple to left to open the sixth. Cole, however, struck out Nicole Matise and Beard and then after one of her pitches got past catcher Fraccastoro, Fraccastoro recovered quickly enough in time to connect with Cole, who tagged out Cooper at home.

The Lady Bears return to 20-4A play Tuesday when they visit Beaumont Ozen.
