Cole gets Pitcher of the Week at LSU-Eunice

EUNICE — After a week in which she tossed back-to-back no-hitters in the circle, LSU Eunice softball freshman Raven Cole, who graduated from LC-M last year, has been named the NJCAA Division II Pitcher of the Week.

Cole threw her first no-hitter Feb. 12 in the second game of a doubleheader sweep over Alvin Community College and her second came two days later on Feb. 14, when her no-hitter in game two over Jeff Davis Community College followed fellow freshman Destin Vicknair's no-hitter in game one of the doubleheader.

Overall, Cole finished with 19 strikeouts in her 11 innings of work, walking four batters. All four walks came against Alvin, while she struck out 12 of the 18 total batters she faced against Jeff Davis.

Her four wins so far this season are one off the national leader and her 40 strikeouts place her second in the nation in that category as well.

Offensively, Cole helped out at the plate as well, finishing 3-for-6 with three RBIs, four walks and three runs scored while hitting in three of the four games last week.

Cole and the Lady Bengals are back in action with a pair of back-to-back home doubleheaders against Coffeyville Community College this Friday and Saturday. Friday's doubleheader will begin at 1 p.m., with action beginning at 11 a.m. on Saturday.
