Lady Cards rally past Lady Cats, 8-5

ORANGEFIELD —  

Bridge City's Lady Cardinals were patient Friday night and it paid off in the end with a 8-5 victory over their rival Orangefield Lady Bobcats.

Orangefield jumped out to a 4-0 lead after the first two innings only to see Bridge City battle back and tie the game in the third and take the lead in the fifth.

Annelise Borg got the Lady Cardinals going in the third with a leadoff single before Faith Kaufman and Kaleigh Carter each drew walks.

Kasey Fredrick with two outs then reached second on a throwing error by Orangefield that allowed all three runners to score to make it 4-3.

Kelsey Fults then ripped a RBI double to center that was only a few feet away from going over the fence.

The score stayed tied at 4-4 until the fifth inning when Fredrick hit a RBI double to left field that scored Carter from second. Carter led off the inning with a double of her own.

Fredrick later came in to score on another Orangefield error to put Bridge City up 6-4.

The Lady Cardinals then tacked on two more runs in the top of the sixth inning after Kaufman led off with a double to left field right before Hannah Carpenter reached on an error.

Carter brought Kaufman home with a RBI single and Carpenter scored on a double by Fredrick to put Bridge City up 8-4.

Orangefield scored its last run of the night after Sami Burgess reached on a single and scored on a Bridge City error.

The Lady Bobcats raced to a 2-0 lead in the first inning when Katelyn Dickerson reached on a single and Khandi Breaux later reached on a bunt.

Kaylie Evans plated both runners on a two-run double to left field.

Orangefield tacked on two more runs in the second as Kelsey Ancelot hit a RBI single that scored Ashton Gautreaux and Burgess then crossed home plate on an error.

Breaux struck out eight batters in her time on the mound while her opposing pitcher, Kellyn Cormier, struck out one batter and gave up six hits over seven innings.
