Sports briefs: Ragsdale All-Region at San Jac

ORANGE — Former West Orange-Stark graduate Sarah Ragsdale was honored at the Region XIV Softball Banquet as a 1st Team All-Conference and a 1st Team All-Region Player.

As a freshman, Sarah hit .423 with 85 hits in 62 games.  Sarah was also honored as San Jacinto College “Student Athlete of the Year” at the San Jacinto Award’s Ceremony.

Peveto Boil

ORANGEFIELD — The 20th annual Ed Peveto Memorial Scholarship Fundraiser Crawfish Boil is scheduled for Saturday, June 1 at the Jewel Cormier Community Center in Orangefield.

There will be a cajun, highest bidder and silent auction. If you like sports the auctions are well worth the drive to attend. There will be a moonwalk for the kids. The cooks & committee does not furnish drinks so feel free to bring your own ice chest w/drinks.

Crawfish Trays will be provided but you are encouraged you to bring your own if you have one. They probably hold more crawfish than the small cardboard trays provided.

The event will start at 1 p.m. with the auction starting around 3 p.m.

The crawfish, corn, potatoes, mushrooms and links are free but donations to the scholarship fund are expected.

Everyone is invited; hope to see our friends from neighboring communities join us in this special event.

The funds provides a scholarship to a boy and girl student athlete at Orangefield High School.

If you have any questions or need directions please call Keith Little at (409) 781-3913.

OF Honor Wall

ORANGEFIELD — The Orangefield Athletic Department is looking to start a “Wall of Honor” for those athletes that have either been named All-State or have gone on to play at the next level.

As many people know, all of this stuff was lost in a fire in the early 1990’s, and we would like to rebuild this tradition and bring it up to date. If you have an 8X10 photo and the year you were named All-State or the years you played at the college or Pro level, you can drop them off at the field house between the hours of 8 a.m. and 3::30 p.m.

The boys’ pictures will be hung in the field house and the girls’ pictures will be hung in the new gym. Please help us rebuild this “Wall of Honor” to celebrate the accomplishments of our athletes, past and present. For any questions, please call the field house at 735-4504 or email
