BC, OF baseball area round games set

ORANGE — Both the Bridge City Cardinals and Orangefield Bobcats will look to extend their baseball campiagns this week as both get prepared for Class 3A Region III area round series matchups.

The Cardinals will take on Sweeny, the No. 1-ranked team in Class 3A, in a best-of-three series.

Bridge City and the Bulldogs will hook up at LaPorte High School Friday and Saturday.

Game One is Friday at 7 p.m. Game Two is Saturday at 2 p.m. with Game Three, if necessary, 30 minutes after Game Two.

The Bridge City-Sweeny winner will take on either Huffman our Stafford in the regional quarterfinals.

The Bobcats will take on District 23-3A champion Houston Furr.

The Orangefield-Furr winner will take on either 21-3A champion Silsbee or Columbia in the regional quarterfinals in a best-of-three series Friday and Saturday at Baytown Sterling High School.

Game One is Friday at 7 p.m. Game Two is Saturday at 1 p.m. with Game Three, if necessary, 45 minutes after Game Two.

The Cardinals are coming off a 4-1 victory over Shepherd in the bidistrict round. They received a complete-game three-hitter from pitcher Hayden Guidry. The Cardinals also got a solo home run from Nick Portacci and a RBI single by Bryce Sampere.

The Bobcats turned back Tarkington 3-2 and 6-5 in the bidistrict round.

In Friday’s 3-2 Game Two clincher the Bobcats scored the game-winning run in the seventh. With two runners on, Tryce Howard hit a pop-up to second base that was dropped as Matthew Kress darted home to score.

Furr defeated East Chambers 13-9 in a warmup game last week.

Silsbee will take on Columbia in a three-game set, all at Humble High School.

Game One will be Friday at 7 p.m. Game Two is slated for Saturday at 1 p.m. with Game Three to follow if necessary.

District 20-4A champion Nederland will face the Hutto Hippos in a best-of-three series with all games being played at Magnolia High School. Game One is Friday at 7:30 p.m. Game Two will be at 2 p.m. Saturday with Game Three to follow if necessary.

Port Neches-Groves will tangle with Georgetown in a one-game battle Friday at 7 p.m. at New Caney.

In Class 2A, Woodville will challenge White Oak in a best-of-three series. All games will be played at Lufkin’s Morris Frank Park. Game One is Thursday at 7 p.m. Game Two is Friday at 7 p.m. and Game Three, if necessary, will be Saturday at 2 p.m.

In TAPPS playoff action, Beaumont Legacy will take on Brazos Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. at The Woodlands.
