Borg, Lady Cards rip H-J

BRIDGE CITY — Anne Borg lit a fire early in the bottom of the first inning with a big three-run home-run blast to help lead the Bridge City Cardinals to a blazing 16-1 District 21-3A victory in four innings over the Hardin-Jefferson Lady Hawks Tuesday night at Lady Cardinal Field.

The Lady Cardinals pounded out 15 hits against H-J starter Taryn Huff as they improved their 21-3A mark to 5-1.

Borg finished 3-for-3 with a homer, a triple and a double. Bailey Thibodeaux was 3-for-4 while Kaleigh Carter, Kasey Frederick, Hanna Carpenter and Faith Kaufman all had two hits.

Kellyn Cormier picked up the win on the hill for Bridge City. She allowed three hits while striking out three.

The Lady Cardinals touched Huff for seven runs on eight hits in the bottom of the first with Borg’s three-run shot highlighting it.

Cormier drew a one-out walk and Frederick followed with a sharp single to left. Courtesy runner Hanna Faulk scored the first run after an error at second base off a Kelsey Fults’ grounder.

Borg made it 4-0 in a hurry when she lifted a Huff offering deep to right centerfield as the ball just cleared the wall for a three-run jolt.

Thibodeaux and Carpenter  followed with back-to-back singles. Kaufman brought home Thibodeaux with a RBI single up the middle. After Carter singled to load the bases, Cormier plated Carpenter with a single up the middle. Frederick promptly picked up her second hit of the inning, scoring Kaufman with a RBI single to centerfield to make it 7-0.

Bridge City tacked on three more runs in the bottom half of the second.

Kaufman sliced a RBI single to right to plate Borg and Carter brought in two more runs to up the margin to 10-0 by cracking a hard single past third base.

The Lady Cardinals tallied three more runs in the third frame.

Borg roped a one-out triple to right and scored off a Thibodeaux RBI single up the middle. Carpenter drew a walk and Thibodeaux would score off a Bailee Bacon grounder that was misfielded at third. Carpenter eventually came in to score off a Kaufman RBI groundout to make it 13-0.

The Lady Hawks strung together three straight hits to grab a run in the top of the fourth.

Karly Smith got H-J’s first hit of the night with a infield single. Sam Derrick reached on a single to right and Smith darted home after a hard-hit double to the centerfield wall by Huff.

Bridge City ended it with three runs in the bottom of the fourth.

Frederick and Fults reached on back-to-back one-out errors. Borg completed her great night with a RBI double to right. Thibodeaux added a RBI single to right and Carpenter had a RBI groundout to finish it off.
