After trailing 3-0 early, the Bridge City Cardinals got hot at the plate and then held off a late rally to get past the Hamshire-Fannett Longhorns 12-10 in District 21-3A play at Longhorn Field.
Bridge City (13-2-2, 3-0) led 12-4 going into the bottom of the seventh before the Longhorns answered with six runs.
The Cardinals, who finished with eight hits, piled up five runs in the top half of the fifth.
Sage Elmore drew a walk then Ashton Hunter singled and Blake Pruett was hit by a pitch to load up the bases.
The Cardinals scored two runs on an error in rightfield and Keaton Langston cranked out a RBI single and Hunter Uzzle capped off the big frame with a two-run double.
Bridge City tacked on two more runs in the sixth.
Jonah Watts drew a walk and Hunter was hit by a pitch and Watts and Hunter both wound up scoring on wild pitches.
Bridge City went up 5-4 in the bottom of the fourth after Blaine Huff walked and eventually scored on an error.
The Cardinals erased a 4-1 deficit with three runs in the top of the third.
Uzzle drew a walk. Chase Shugart followed with a single. Elmore plated a run with a single. Watts came up big by cranking out a two-run single.
The Longhorns scratched in three runs in the bottom of the first on two hits.
The Cardinals answered with a run in the top of the second.
Watts drew a walk and Hunter was hit by a pitch and Pruett laced a single to load up the bases and Watts ended up scoring on a wild pitch.
H-F added a run in the bottom of the second with two hits and the Horns scored on an error.
The Cardinals return to 21-3A action Tuesday when they visit Hardin-Jefferson.
