LITTLE CYPRESS — Excitement filled up The Bear Cave Tuesday night as the Little Cypress-Mauriceville Bears pulled off a 43-42 upset victory over Class 4A’s No .2-ranked Beaumont Ozen Panthers.

The Bears’ Taylor Peveto drained a free-throw with 0:01 remaining to nail down the victory for the Bears, who improved to 14-9 overall and to a solid 3-1 in 20-4A play.

“We had a great defensive game-plan and were able to slow down what Ozen wanted to do,” said Bear coach Darin Harley. “The kids made some key plays down the stretch. Jace Robertson got hot for us with the three-pointer and Andrew Despit really sparked our defense, which was outstanding all night.”

Robertson finished with 18 points as he buried four three-pointers.

Trumaine Elmore had nine points for the Bears while Peveto finished with seven and Despit had six.

Kaelin Goldwire led the Panthers (16-5, 2-2) with 16 points. Sam DeMasters contributed 10 points while Christian Bolton had seven.

The Bears will look to continue their winning ways Friday when they vist Lumberton.
