DEER PARK — The Summer Creek Bulldogs proved to be too much to handle for the Vidor Pirates as the Pirates season ended with a 51-27 loss Friday night at Clyde Abshire Stadium.

The Pirates (9-2) would amass 423 yards rushing but it would be a couple of key turnovers and a couple of big plays that would doom the Pirates. Even thought they were short on the scoreboard they never ran out of heart. The Pirates posted 27 points on a defense that allowed just 11.5 points a game this season.

“We had a great group of senior this year and it makes me sad to see them go,” said Vidor coach Jeff Mathews said. “For a senior class you always want to leave the program better than you found it. We were 8-2 last year and 9-1 this year and next year we are striving to be better.”

Montana Quitante lead the offensive unit picking 172 yards on 22 carries and finding the end zone three times on the ground on once through the air to Colby Sciarrilla. Justin Moore and Michael Godeaux were also major contributers adding 103 yard and 78 yards respectively.

The Bulldogs (11-0)  were lead by duel threat Aaron Sharp who collected 345 yard through the air and 78 on the ground. Sharp accounted for seven total touchdowns with six coming through the air. Gregory Hogan was his favorite target pulling in six catches for 169 yards and four touchdown strikes. Torrey Johnson also had a big night with six grabs for 84 yards and one touchdown.

The Summer Creek Bulldogs took the lead right out of the gate by forcing a fumble on Vidor's first possession. After the turnover the Bulldogs struck first scoring on the second play from scrimmage. Aaron sharp would fake a draw play then run it the other way 29 yards for the score. Jorge Trujillo added the extra point.

The result of the Pirates second possession would not be any different as the Bulldogs fell on another fumble.

The Bulldog offense would waste little time scoring on the sixth play of the drive with a 10 yard strike from Sharp to Hogan. Trujillo would add the extra point as the Pirates found themselves in an early 14-0 whole with 6:43 left in the first quarter.

“We still felt good about our gameplan after the fumbles,” Said Matthews. “Both came from guys that are normally sure-handed but we never stopped fighting. That's what makes a coach proud”.

After both teams traded fruitless possessions the Pirates would take over at the Bulldogs 49 yard line thanks to a short punt. The offense finally got rolling as they moved down the field to score on only five plays. Facing a third and seven situation Quirante showed poise under pressure as he found Sciarrilla for a 12 yard touchdown strike. Tamayo's kick made the scoreboard read 14-7 with 53 seconds left in the first quarter.

They Pirates would not let up as Zach Massey fell onto a surprise onside kick. Starting on their own 48 yard line they would use 10 plays to chip away at the field position. Quirante showed his athleticism as he scampered 13 yards and fully extended on a dive for the end zone as he narrowly reached pay-dirt. Tamayo's kick would pull the  Pirates back to even with 8:08 remaining in the half.

On the ensuing drive Summer creek would stall in the red zone and be forced to settle for a field goal. Trujillo's hit a bank shot as the kick went off the upright and bounced on the crossbar twice before it finally resulted in three points.

The Pirates offense would push into enemy territory looking for their first lead of the night. But the Bulldog defense would fall on their third fumble of the night to stifle the momentum.

The Bulldogs would captilize on the mistake using a 44-yard strike from Sharp to Hogan to land the offense 15 yards from the end zone. The following play Sharp would find Hogan again this time in the end zone. Trujillo's kick put them up by 10 with one minute until halftime.

The Bulldogs would come out swinging after halftime as they found the end zone yet again. Sharp managed to find Hogan yet again for a 27 yard score. The PAT put them up 31-14.

The Pirates would push into Bulldog territory but eventually be stopped short on a fourth down conversion attempt.

The following play was a 64-yard pass from Sharp to Ruffin to continue to pile it on.

The Pirates would not bow out though. They would quickly take the ball down the field and eventually Quirante would fight his way to the end zone on a 32 yard run. After the two point conversion failed the Pirates trailed 38-20.

The Pirates would keep fighting as Steven Niemczynski would jump on the onside kick.

The Pirates would add on one more touchdown in the closing moments of the game even though the result was out of reach.
