The Orange Leader
Orangefield running back Carl Wiley is The Orange Leader’s Offensive Player of the Week while West Orange-Stark linebacker Elijah Teel is the Defensive Player of the Week after stellar performances in victories last week.
There is no doubt that Wiley’s eyes have to light up when he sees the Hamshire-Fannett Longhorns coming.
In Orangefield’s 52-14 victory last week, Wiley busted through the H-F defense for 257 yards and two touchdowns on 18 carries. In last year’s 54-28 win over H-F, Wiley had 254 yards and three TDs on 20 carries. In the last two games against the Horns, Wiley racked up 511 yards on 38 carries and netted five TDs.
Meanwhile, Teel was a thorn in Hardin-Jefferson’s side all night as the Mustangs throttled the Hawks 46-6.
Teel notched a team-high 18 tackles and had a interception and a pass deflection. He returned the interception 63 yards that set up a Mustang touchdown.
There were plenty of other noteworthy performances, including the Little Cypress-Mauriceville defense, which produced five turnovers, including four interceptions in a big 31-14 victory at Port Neches-Groves.
WO-S quarterback Dillon Sterling-Cole accounted for four TDs, including three passing as he went 6-for-8 for 205 yards.
LC-M backs Brandon Toliver and Robert Green combined for 249 yards on 44 carries to help the Bears “bruise” by the Indians.
Orangefield defenders Dustin Verrett and Colby Choate combined to make 20 tackles, two sacks and an interception while Vidor back Sage Smith rushed for 130 yards on 19 carries in a loss to Ozen.
