The Orange Leader
For those die-hard West Orange-Stark Mustangs fans that made the long trek to Jasper Friday night, it was a quick turn-around trip.
For those that made the short trip to Little Cypress-Mauriceville to watch the Battlin’ Bears play the Coldspring Trojans, their night was a wash too.
Neither game will be made up as both were non-district affairs.
The Orange County area alone had up to five inches of rain going into the LC-M kickoff.
The Bears and Trojans lined up to play at 7:30 p.m. but as soon as the national anthem was played, there was a 30-minute lightning delay. Coaches and officials met right after 8 p.m. and decided to cancel the proceedings.
Due to the horrendous weather conditions, the WO-S-Jasper matchup was canceled about 10 minutes before the official kickoff time of 7 p.m.
The Mustangs (2-1) will now turn their attention in winning the District 21-3A title again starting next week when they pay the Hamshire-Fannett Longhorns (2-1) a visit.
Since dropping down to the Class 3A ranks in 2004 the Mustangs have “owned” District 21-3A, winning eight of the last nine 21-3A crowns.
In other 21-3A action next week, the Bridge City Cardinals will entertain the Buna Cougars while the Orangefield Bobcats head to Silsbee to face the Tigers.
Both Silsbee and Livingston had the night off as well as the Tigers’ game up at Livingston was canceled Friday night.
District 20-4A cranks up as well next week.
LC-M will be at home as the Bears play host to the Livingston Lions. The Vidor Pirates will head to Nederland. Beaumont Central and Beaumont Ozen will battle it out in the Beaumont Bowl while Lumberton welcomes in Port Neches-Groves.
