The Little Cypress-Mauriceville Battlin’ Bears took District 19-4A champion C.E. King into the late-night hours Tuesday night before falling 53-51 in overtime.
The Bears (20-14), the fourth-place team out of District 20-4A, battled C.E. King (27-5) mightily throughout and actually led quite a bit throughout the game that was held at Baytown Lee College.
The Bears jumped out of the gate with a flash, leading 13-6 at the end of the first period. They led by as much as 23-14 in the second period and carried a 27-21 in at the half.
C.E. King trimmed the margin to 34-30 after three. King was able to outscore the Bears 17-13 in the fourth period as the game went into overtime.
King bounced out to a 51-47 edge and then held off the Bears in quite the battle.
Jace Robertson led the LC-M arsenal with 18 points. Post Blake Fuss powered his way to 14 points while Trumaine Elmore and Andrew Despit added eight points apiece.
Shaq Berry led King with 20 points while Gilbert Thomas had 16.
