Texas Tech dominates Grambling State for 91-56 win

LUBBOCK, Texas — Once again, Jaye Crockett came off the bench to lead the Red Raiders to victory.

The junior forward scored 17 points and grabbed 14 rebounds to lead Texas Tech to a 91-56 win over Grambling State on Tuesday night. Crockett also had a double-double off the bench on Wednesday.

"He knows that his best asset is bringing in points off the bench," Texas Tech coach Chris Walker said.

Crockett was a force in the paint on both sides of the ball the entire game. His 360-degree slam dunk with about 4 minutes left in the first half put the Red Raiders (3-0) ahead 34-15 and ignited the crowd.

"He's like a sixth starter — I trust him completely. He changes a game," Walker said.

Trency Jackson added 15 points, including a pair of 3-pointers to put the Red Raiders up 12-6 early in the game, and a buzzer-beating dunk to end the first half.

"I didn't do anything special because I was trying to beat the clock," Jackson said. "But I knew. I was trying to get there fast."

Jordan Tolbert added 14 points and eight rebounds for the Red Raiders.

David Copeland led the Tigers (0-5) with 15 points on 6-of-9 shooting, and Tery Rose added 13, including three 3s. Peter Roberson scored 11 off the bench.

The Red Raiders played aggressive defense all game long, picking up 17 steals and turning them into 29 points while committing only five turnovers of their own.

"We're fighting every day in practice, so we try to fight against somebody else when we're in the game," Crockett said.

Texas Tech pressed Grambling State all game, wearing out the Tigers' starters and forcing them to match up with the Red Raiders' bench. The Red Raiders scored 41 points off the bench, two more than they did Wednesday night.
