Lady Bears, Mustangs nab 2nd in tourneys

ORANGE — The Little Cypress-Mauriceville Lady Bears took five of six games at their Lady Bear Tournament held at the College Street Softball Complex over the weekend, defeating District 20-4A rivals Vidor and Lumberton in the process.

LC-M (5-1), which finished in second-place,  hammered out a 10-0 victory over the Vidor Lady Pirates.

Hope Russell got the win on the hill, scattering two hits while striking out nine in five innings.

Taylor Fraccastoro was 3-for-4 with two triples and drove in three runs.

Russell was 2-for-4 and drove in two runs. Angel Villanueava, who swung an amazing bat throughout the tournament, was 2-for-4 with two RBI. Haley Mills was 2-for-3 and scored three times. Alisha Fuss was 2-for-3 and plated a run as LC-M pounded out 15 hits.

The Lady Bears took down the Lumberton Lady Raiders 6-1 as Russell and Chelsey White combined on a five-inning one-hitter.

LC-M had just four hits. Fraccastoro drove in two runs while White, Villanueva and Blythe Ferguson each drove in a run.

The Lady Bears pounced on Beaumont West Brook 18-0.

Villanueva drove in five runs, including a home run. Taylor Fraccastoro and Haley Mills also homered in the rout.

Russell and Chelsey White combined on a three-inning two-hitter.

It didn’t get much easier for the Beaumont schools as the Lady Bears ripped Beaumont Kelly 18-1.

LC-M pounded out 10 hits in just three innings.

Mills and Kayla Manuel had two hits apiece for the Lady Bears. Mills drove in three runs along with Alexie Hughes while Alisha Fuss drove home two runs. White tossed three innings and allowed just two hits.

The Lady Bears fell short to eventual tourney champion Hardin-Jefferson 5-1 despite Russell and White combining to limit H-J to five hits. LC-M had six hits with Mills getting two and driving in a run.

Other tournament scores included H-J 6, Vidor 2; Bridge City 11, West Brook 2; Vidor 10, West Brook 1; Lumberton 7, Bridge City 1; Lumberton 6, West Brook 5; Bridge City 16, Kelly 1; Vidor 16, Kelly 0; H-J 8, West Brook 4; Vidor 9, Bridge City 2; Vidor 14, Lumberton 5; and H-J 9, Bridge City 8.

LC-M will be getting on their road cleats this week as they travel to the Waco Tournament Thursday through Saturday.
