HOOP WRAP: Mustangs cruise past Bobcats



LITTLE CYPRESS — Beaumont Ozen went on a 21-7 run in the second quarter as the Panthers went on to defeat the Little Cypress-Mauriceville Bears 64-39 in District 20-4A action at The Bear Cave Friday night.

Taylor Peveto led the Bears (11-19, 2-10) with 12 points while Trumiane Elmore chimed in with nine and Teondre Gant added eight.

Christian Bolton paced Ozen (18-9, 11-1) with 13 points. Wayne Wyngarde scored 12 for the Panthers and Ryan Haynes added 11.

The Bears return to action Tuesday when they visit the Lumberton Raiders.

BRIDGE CITY — Kelsey Fults erupted for 22 points and 12 rebounds to lead the Bridge City Lady Cardinals to a 54-46 District 21-3A win over Hamshire-Fannett Friday night, knocking the Lady Longhorns out of the playoff picture.

The Lady Cardinals (5-6 in district) outscored the Lady Longhorns (5-6 in district) 35-23 in the second half after trailing 23-19 at intermission.

Thye Lady Cardinal win put the Orangefield Lady Bobcats (15-12, 7-5) in the playoffs. Orangefield will go to the playoffs as the third-place team after defeating WO-S 60-55 Friday night.

Alexus Henry had 11 points and five rebounds for the Lady Cardinals while Harleigh Myers had seven points.

Kasey Frederick yanked down nine rebounds for Bridge City while Bailee Bacon had five.

DeLord had 13 points for H-F while Crawford added 11.

The Lady Cardinals will wrap up their season Tuesday on the road at 21-3A champion Hardin-Jefferson (11-0), which defeated second-place Buna 54-36 Friday.

In other action Friday night, first-place Beaumont Ozen canned Little Cypress-Mauriceville 97-18 in District 20-4A play. LC-M can still make the playoffs though if the Lady Bears (13-19, 5-8) defeat Lumberton at home Tuesday.
