HOOP WRAP: Bears wake up, blast Livingston 61-38

LITTLE CYPRESS — After spotting the Livingston Lions the first 12 points of the game, the Little Cypress-Mauriceville Bears quickly woke up from their brief hibernation to notch a District 20-4A win at their Bear Cave Tuesday night.

The Bears went on to outscore the Lions 61-26 the rest of the way, sparked by a 17-0 run and a 15-2 spurt to blow out Livingston 61-38.

Junior Taylor Peveto sparked the Bears (11-16, 2-6) in their jaunt, scoring 17 of his game-high 19 points after intermission.

Trailing the Lions 20-18 at intermission, LC-M went on a 20-2 tear in the third period to easily pull away.

Jace Robertson fired in 10 of his 14 points in the second half to aid the Bear cause. Forward Christian Wendt had a solid all-around outing with 10 points, seven rebounds and five assists while Teondre Gant scored nine points off three three-point bombs.

Garrett Green paced the Lions (9-14, 2-6) with 18 points and seven rebounds while Luther Jackson scored six points.

Green and the Lions were hot early and the Bears were ice cold from the field. Green ignited Livingston’s 12-0 start with eight points, scoring on drives to the hoop.

The Bears stopped the bleeding when Robertson scored a layup and Gant buried a trey to cut the Lions’ lead to 14-5 at the end of the first period.

LC-M outscored the Lions 13-6 in the second period, slowly creeping back into it. Gant had another big three-pointer and Wendt scored two buckets inside to help trim the margin to 20-18 at the half. Jackson scored all six of his points for the Lions in the second period.

The onslaught was on when the third period started.

The Bears grabbed the lead and never trailed again at 22-20 when Wendt scored on a three-point play with 5:38 left in the third.

LC-M forced Livingston into eight turnovers in the period. Peveto scored six points in the quarter and Robertson had five, both of them connecting on three-pointers in the process. Green had Livingston’s only bucket in the quarter as the Bears led 38-22 heading to the final period.
