Elgin downs Lady Bears in Game One

THE WOODLANDS — It was a tough Game One outing for the Little Cypress-Mauriceville Lady Bears Friday night as they dropped a 8-5 decision to the Elgin Lady Wildcats and hot-hitting Abby Prinz at The Woodlands College Park High School.

Prinz, who was 3-for-4,  hit a two-run homer and capped the game with a three-run shot in the seventh to help the Lady Tigers take Game One over the Lady Bears (26-7).

Game Two of the series will be back at Woodlands College Park today at 5 p.m. Game Three, if necessary, will follow 30 minutes after Game Two.

The Lady Bears actually had one more hit then the Lady Tigers. LC-M had 11 hits while Elgin had 10.

The Lady Wildcats (24-7), District 17-4A champions, went up 2-0 in the top half of the first highlighted by Prinz, who belted a two-run home run.

Elgin tacked on three runs in the top of the third as pitcher Staci Johns put the Lady Wildcats up 5-1 with a towering three-run home run.

The Lady Bears pulled to within 5-3 after five by scoring two runs with two outs as Hope Russell and Blythe Ferguson each put together RBI singles.

Prinz fueled the Tigers’ fire again when she cranked a three-run homer to give the Lady Tigers some insurance in the top of the seventh frame to go up 8-3.

The Lady Bears kept battling as they punched in a pair of runs in the bottom of the inning behind RBI singles by Ferguson and Morgan Babineaux.

Haley Mills went 3-for-4 and scored for the Lady Bears. Russell was 2-for-4 with a RBI. Taylor Fraccastoro was 2-for-4 and scored a pair of runs. Mikaela Stegall had a hit and scored twice.
