West Columbia ousts Lady Cardinals, 6-3

BAYTOWN — The West Columbia Lady Roughnecks ended a superb Bridge City season by downing the Lady Cardinals 6-3 in Class 3A area round softball playoff action at Goose Creek Memorial High School Friday night.

Bridge City (23-9) got a nice effort on the mound for Kellyn Cormier, who only allowed four hits, but the Lady Cardinals made five costly errors.

The Lady Roughnecks (24-6) went up quickly with a 3-0 lead after the first inning.

WC grabbed a 4-0 edge after five inning.

BC trimmed it to 4-1 after six only to see WC go up 6-1. The Lady Cardinals tacked on two runs in the seventh,

Kasey Frederick had a RBI double for the Lady Cards. Skylar Kahla and Kaleigh Carter both went 1-for-3 and scored a run apiece while Kaitlyn Smith had a hit.

The Lady Roughnecks will advance to the regional quarterfinals and will face Liberty.
