Mustangs, Bears, Cards all baseball winners

It was the Anderson show Tuesday night yet his named didn’t start with an A or a Z.

Grant Anderson was on the mound for the Mustangs and Orangefield fell to the sophomore pitcher 6-4 at Ronnie Anderson Field.

Anderson, whose brother has an injury, struck out 12 batters in the Mustangs win which moved WO-S to 2-7 in District 21-3A play. Anderson also only allowed four hits against Orangefield. Anderson gave up no hits after the fourth inning.

The loss really hurt Orangefield who is now 5-5 and record wise tied with the Buna Cougars for third. Orangefield defeated Buna 3-1 in the first round of district play.

The Bobcats took a 4-2 lead into the fifth when the Mustangs crossed the plate four times and only needed two hits to do it because of two Orangefield errors.

Ryan Gunstream blasted a solo home run in the top of the third to give Orangefield a 3-1 lead. WO-S started to climb back into the game in the bottom of the fourth when the score became 4-2.

Then the big hit came from Jacob Hyborchuck as he smacked a two-run double to push the Mustangs up 6-4 in the fifth.

Gunstream started for the Bobcats on the mound and struck out nine batters yet took the loss. Westin Crain finished the game for Orangefield.

Tavin Terrell had a nice game at the plate for the Mustangs going 2-for-3.

Orangefield is off Friday while WO-S will be at home against Buna. Next week the teams will not play until until Thursday, April 25. WO-S will travel to face Bridge City and Orangefield will travel to face Buna.

LITTLE CYPRESS — Coby Roddy was on fire on the mound Tuesday night to say the least for the Little Cypress-Mauriceville Bears.

The Bears won 3-1 against the Beaumont Ozen Panthers and thanks in large part to Roddy.
