Lady Bears turn back WO-S, 58-45

LITTLE CYPRESS — The Little Cypress-Mauriceville Lady Bears ran their record to 2-0 on the young season by defeating the West Orange-Stark Lady Mustangs 58-45 at The Bear Cave Saturday.

The Lady Bears utilized a 17-4 spurt in the third quarter to take command of the game. The Lady Mustangs led 30-22 at intermission.

LC-M closed out the win with a 19-11 run in the final period.

Senior post Kayleigh Roy led LCM in scoring and rebounding with 17 points and 13 rebounds. 

Senior post Tara Thompson, had another strong outing, scoring 11 points and snaring eight rebounds.  Junior guard Cassidy Webster had 11 points,  six steals and four rebounds.  Sophomore guard Josie Nimitz also provided outstanding defense, coming up with six steals. Freshman post Sheridan Rogers contributed eight points.

D. Daughtery led WO-S with 12 points while N. Platt had eight.

In other non-district action, the Orangefield Lady Bobcats dropped their season opener to Lumberton 49-44.

Post Morgan Moss had a stout game for the Lady Bobcats, scoring 20 points while grabbing eight rebounds.

Kacey LeBlanc had six points and two assists for Orangefield.Kacie Lummus had four points, five rebounds and four steals. Megan Burton had three points, four rebounds and two steals while Taylor Benoit yanked down five boards.

Girls action tonight will include LC-M visiting Hardin-Jefferson; Vidor at WO-S; Bridge City at Woodville; and Beaumont West Brok at Orangefield.

The boys basketball season will get underway tonight as well.

Vidor will play host to Hamshire-Fannett; Bridge City welcomes in Beaumont Kelly; and WO-S will entertain Beaumont Central.
