Quirante double pick on 4A all-state team

ORANGE — Vidor quarterback Montana Quirante had quite the career for the Pirates. Add a rare accomplishment to the list as the senior was picked twice on the 2012 Texas Associated Press Sports Editors Class 4A all-state team.

Quirante was a second team selection at linebacker and gained honorable mention honors as a quarterback.

Little Cypress-Mauriceville Bears running back Alex Sezer, who signed with Texas A&M on Wednesday, was also given honorable mention praise for his year.

Quirante led the Pirates to a 9-2 record and is now being described as the best overall player to play football in Vidor.

Quirante ran 1,783 yards as a senior and reached the endzone 33 times on only 193 carries. His 147 tackles, seven sacks and three interceptions proved he was a player who truly was built for playing both sides of the ball.

Sezer left the Bears as one of the best running backs in school history.

He showed his endurance his senior year by carrying the football 213 times. Sezer gained 1,308 yards, had 17 touchdowns and averaged 6.1 yards a carry.

Six Nederland Bulldogs were sprinkled across the list after the team reached the regional finals.

Koby Cauron, Nederland’s linebacker, was listed the highest as a second team defensive lineman.

He was joined by running back Kendrick Hopkins, defensive lineman Brock Pryor, defensive lineman De Shawn Washington, linebacker Korbin Stampley and defensive back Colton Kimler who all made it on the honorable mention list.

Ozen’s Tony Brown was selected as a honorable mention defensive back.
