Bears manhandle Indians, 67-37

LITTLE CYPRESS — Utilizing excellent ball movement throughout the game and getting major contributions from their entire lineup, the Little Cypress-Mauriceville Bears cruised past the Port Neches-Groves Indians 67-37 at The Bear Cave Saturday afternoon in District 20-4A hoop action.

The Bears (18-10, 7-2) blitzed the Indians (6-19, 3-6) with an offensive barrage in the early stages and the Indians never recovered.

LC-M led 18-8 after a tremendous first quarter with Trumaine Elmore and Blake Fuss combining for 12 points while the Bears got a three-pointer each from Andrew Despit and Cameron Parker.

The Bears extended their lead to 34-17 at intermission as Elmore scored six points in the quarter and James Armstrong tallied four and LC-M never looked back from there.

Elmore led the LC-M attack with 18 points and also pulled down a game-high six rebounds.

Fuss finished with 12 points and four boards. Parker and Armstrong tacked on eight points apiece while Taylor Peveto added seven points and five rebounds.

Elmore and Fuss teamed up for 11 more points in the third, increasing the Bear lead to 50-26 at the end of the third.

LC-M finished it off by outpointing the Indians 17-11 in the fourth period.

The Bears finished with a 25-16 rebounding edge. The Indians had 15 turnovers while LC-M had 13.

The Bears were a solid 15-of-22 from the free-throw line while the Indians were just 6-of-11.

Guard John Dubois led the Indian attack with eight points while Bradley Broussard and Jack Giblin added six points apiece. Giblin and Ryan Abel led PN-G with four rebounds apiece.

The Bears will be back at home Tuesday when they welcome the first-place Nederland Bulldogs in a big showdown inside The Bear Cave.

The Bears are currently in a three-way tie for second in the district standings with both Beaumont Central and Beaumont Ozen.
