HOOP WRAP: Lady Cardinals fend off Lady Stangs

BRIDGE CITY — Pulling through with some more fourth-quarter dramatics, the Bridge City Lady Cardinals turned back the West Orange-Stark Lady Mustangs 60-54 in District 21-3A action at Cardinal Gym Tuesday night.

The Lady Mustangs (11-14, 1-6) led the Lady Cardinals (26-4, 6-1) 43-42 entering the final eight minutes but Bridge City was able to close it out with a 18-11 run in the last quarter to remain in second-place in the 21-3A race behind Hamshire-Fannett.

Alexus Henry paced the balanced Lady Cardinals with 13 points to go along with five rebounds and two steals. Kasey Frederick chimed in with a double-double, tallying 12 points while grabbing 10 rebounds.

Caylin Choate contributed nine points, eight steals and four assists. Kelsey Fults had nine points, 15 rebounds and four assists. Shayla Bratton had eight points, four rebounds and two steals while Sara Acosta came off the bench to grab five boards.

Derrashia Daughtery sparked the Lady Mustangs with a game-high 22 points while Ariel Jordan filtered in 16 points.

Bridge City will visit Orange County rival Orangefield Friday while the Lady Mustangs return home to entertain Silsbee.

Buna girls 43, Orangefield 31

BUNA — The Orangefield Lady Bobcats fell to the Buna Lady Cougars 43-31 in District 21-3A play at Cougar Gym Tuesday night.

The Lady Cougars (5-2 in district) held the Lady Bobcats (7-17-1-6) to just two points after the first period and led 24-8 at the half.

Orangefield outscored Buna 23-19 after intermission.

Brandy Ehrlich led the Lady Bobcats with eight points while Brooke Ehrlich and Morgan Worthy added four points apiece while Sabryn Crain hauled down nine rebounds.

Hutto and Garsee led the Lady Cougars with 12 points apiece.

The Lady Bobcats will look to bounce back Friday when they host Orange County rival Bridge City.

Central boys 67, LC-M 45

LITTLE CYPRESS — The Little Cypress-Mauriceville Bears fought the No. 1-ranked team in Class 4A hard but fell to the Beaumont Central Jaguars 67-45 at The Bear Cave Tuesday night.

The Bears (15-10, 4-2) cut the Jaguars  (20-4, 6-0) lead to just eight points with a little over two minutes remaining but failed to score again.

Post Blake Fuss paced the Bears with a big double-double, finishing with 15 points and 15 rebounds while Jace Robertson and Taylor Peveto scored 10 points apiece while Andrew Despit added eight.

Jacory Guillory led the Jaguars with 17 points while Etorrian Wilridge added 16.

The Bears will look to bounce back Friday when they visit Orange County rival Vidor.

OF boys 57, Buna 42

ORANGEFIELD — The Orangefield Bobcats snagged their first District 21-3A win on the season Tuesday night, defeating the Buna Cougars 57-42 at Bobcat Gym.

Mason Sonnier and Matthew Kress paced the balanced Bobcats (12-9, 1-4) by scoring 14 points apiece. Buna falls to 13-13 overall, 2-4 in 21-3A play.

The Bobcats will visit Orange County rival Bridge City Friday.
