LC-M softball grads bring home national titles at JC level

ORANGE — Talk about a banner week for 2013 Little Cypress-Mauriceville graduates and former Lady Bear softball standouts Raven Cole, Kassie James and Kaleigh Roy as they participated for National Championship collegiate squads over the weekend.

Cole and her LSU Eunice softball team won three straight games on Saturday afternoon while facing elimination, including an eight-run sixth inning in the deciding game, to capture their second straight NJCAA Division II National Championship.

The Lady Bengals first defeated Des Moines Area Community College 1-0 Saturday morning before a 5-1 victory over Jones County to force one final game for everything, ending with an 8-6 victory in the clincher to grab their second national title in as many years and their third in program history. LSU Eunice finishes the season with a 64-3 record, the most victories in a single season.

James and Roy are both freshmen at Angelina Junior College in Lufkin.

They helped the Lady Roadrunners capture the NJCAA World Series crown in St. George, Utah by defeating Central Florida 8-5 on Saturday.

James went 2-for-4 in the contest, scoring two runs while driving in another.
