Shugart, Cards mow down Buna

BUNA — The Bridge City Cardinals stayed perfect in District 21-3A play by blanking the Buna Cougars 6-0 Friday night at Cougar Field.

Chase Shugart was masterful on the mound for the Cardinals (17-2-2, 7-0). He went the distance, striking out 14 Cougars (2-5 in district) in the process while allowing a mere four hits.

Shugart was also 2-for-4 at the plate with a RBI.

Kyle Bergeron went 2-for-4 with a double and two RBI. Ashton Hunter was 1-for-1 with two RBI and walked twice. Trevor Gunn was 1-for-3 with a RBI.

BC coach Chad Landry was proud of the way the Cafds moved runners as they completed five sacrifice bunts.

The Cardinals will have a bye Tuesday and will be at home next Friday against Silsbee.

In other baseball action Friday night, Hamshire-Fannett (4-3 in district) edged out West Orange-Stark (16-4, 4-3) 1-0 in 21-3A play.

In District 20-4A action, Little Cypress-Mauriceville (3-5 in district) dropped a tough 5-4 road decision at Livingston (6-2). Nederland (5-3) took down Vidor (5-3) 5-3 and Lumberton (5-3) stopped Port Neches-Groves (6-2) 9-3.
