Local squads wrap up Bayou Classic well

ORANGEFIELD — It was a good day for Orange County teams on the final day of the Bayou Classic hosted by Bridge City and Orangefield last Monday through Wednesday.

Little Cypress-Mauriceville captured the third-place trophy Wednesday, defeating Orange County and District 20-4A rival Vidor 41-37.

Trumaine Elmore led the Bears (13-8) with 16 points while All-Tournament post Blake Fuss scored 11.

Grant Allen led Vidor with 16 points.

Orangefield took down Sabine Pass 78-26 as the Bobcats (11-7) canned 11 three-pointers.

Dustin Verrett paced the Bobcat attack with 16 points. Matthew Kress pumped in 13 points while Dane Risinger had 12 and Carl Wiley added 10.

The Bridge City Cardinals captured a consolation win as well, defeating the Anahuac Panthers 64-56.

The Flower Mound Rebels went through the tourney undefeated to claim the title as they defeated Corsicana 63-50 in the championship game.

On Tuesday, LC-M defeated 20-4A rival Port Neches-Groves 46-43 as Taylor Peveto hit a go-ahead three-pointer with 17 seconds left.

Elmore led the Bears with 17 points while Peveto filtered in 12 and Fuss addede 10. Adam Morse led the Indians with 15 points.

LC-M also defeated Anahuac 53-31 thanks to a 26-11 run in the second quarter.

Jace Robertson led the Bear attack with 13 points and eight rebounds. Peveto and Fuss scored 12 points apiece while Elmore added eight points and five boards.

After falling hard to Flower Mound 63-36 Tuesday, the Bobcats rebounded nicely to thump Anahuac 59-33 when they connected on 13 three-pointers.

Carl Wiley led the way with 15 points. Caleb Kress hit three three-pointers and finished with 13 points. Verrett, Carmichael Wiley, and Mason Sonnier each scored seven points with Sonnier also hauling down nine rebounds. Jeremiah Moore led the Panthers with 11 points.

Other scores from Tuesday included Lumberton 51, Corsicana 49; Vidor 56, Bridge City 49; Corsicana 77, Sabine Pass 25; and Lumberton 56, Bridge City 48.
