Bears' Toliver, Stangs' Spencer net Players of the Week

ORANGE — Little Cypress-Mauriceville running back Brandon Toliver is The Orange Leader’s Offensive Player of the Week and West Orange-Stark defensive back Tre Spencer is the Defensive Player of the Week after supreme efforts last week led their teams to victories.

Toliver shredded the Lumberton defense for 368 yards and five touchdowns on 31 carries as the Bears clinched their first playoff berth in 16 years. He has been on a tear the last two weeks, netting 587 yards and eight TDs on 57 totes.

Spencer played well in the Mustangs’ 42-0 win over Buna. Spencer was in on six tackles, two for losses. He also had an interception and a deflected pass as WO-S held the Cougars to just 128 total yards.

Other noteworthy performances includes Bridge City quarterback Chase Shugart, who passed for 256 yards and a score against H-J. WO-S quarterback Dillon Sterling-Cole, who passed for 157 yards and two TDs and ran for 64 and another score and the entire WO-S defense, which held Buna to just 128 yards, all on the ground, on 52 carries.
