Lady Bobcats sweep past WO-S

WEST ORANGE — After dominating the first two games, the Orangefield Lady Bobcats held off the West Orange-Stark Lady Mustangs in the third one to post a 25-13, 25-16, 26-24 District 21-3A victory at Mustang Gym Tuesday night.

Orangefield (3-1 in district) outscored the Lady Mustangs (0-4 in district) 12-3 down the stretch in Game One and scored 12 of the final 18 points in Game Two to take that one.

The Lady Mustangs started Game Three strong, racing out to a 6-0 lead and they led by as much as 14-4.

Orangefield rallied back though, going on a 17-3 spurt to take a 21-17 edge. However, the Lady Mustangs bounced back and could have closed out the game with a 24-22 edge but the Lady Bobcats fought back again, scoring the match’s last four points to seal the sweep.

Taylor Benoit led the Lady Bobcats with 12 kills. Sabryn Crain had 10 kills while Priscilla Garza, Morgan Worthy and Sarah Truncale each had three.

Kaylie Evans had her service game working for Orangefield as she totaled 17 points to go along with two aces.

The Lady Bobcats finished with 16 aces. Worthy had six points and three aces. Paige Ousley collected six points and an ace. Brandy Ehrlich finished with five points and three aces while Benoit had four points and two aces.

Markia Davis paced the Lady Mustangs with six kills. Aleah Teel and Daija Roberts contributed five apiece while Chrisalyn Janice and Madison Neal added three each.

Teel served up eight points and had three aces. Roberts had six points and an ace while Marlaysia Davis added six points.

The Lady Bobcats will head to Silsbee Friday night while the Lady Mustangs visit Hamshire-Fannett.

The Lady Bobcats and Bridge City Lady Cardinals nabbed District 21-3A volleyball victories last Friday night.

The Lady Bobcats took down the Buna Lady Cougars 26-24, 20-25, 21-25, 25-17, 15-9 in a thrilling five-game affair.

Benoit had 13 kills and five blocks. Garza chimed in with 12 kills while Worthy notched 11.

Crain contributed 10 kills and eight digs. Evans set up the offense well, putting together 40 assists. Brandy Ehrlich had 19 digs while Brooke Ehrlich had seven. Rebekah Newell notched a team-high six blocks.

The Lady Cardinals made a clean sweep of the WO-S, winning 25-14, 25-23, 25-18.

Alexus Henry paced the BC offense with 16 kills and added 12 digs.

Olivia Bass had 35 assists and two aces. Jessi Glover contributed eight aces and eight digs. Caylin Choate led the way with 21 digs.
