HOOP WRAP: Lady Mustangs nip Silsbee

ORANGE — The West Orange-Stark Lady Mustangs picked a great night to capture their first District 21-3A win of the season by defeating the Silsbee Lady Tigers 47-46 at Mustang Gym Tuesday night.

Lady Mustang head coach Bonnie Perry, who was a All-State player for WO-S in the mid-1980s and who was also a standout player at Baylor, had her jersey retired before the game Tuesday.

Derreashia Daughtery powered the Lady Mustang attack with 10 points. Eriel Jordan and Adreama Beverly tallied eight points apiece while BreAnna Preston swatted five shots.

The Lady Mustangs will return to 21-3A play Tuesday when they play host to Hamshire-Fannett.

LITTLE CYPRESS — The Vidor Lady Pirates held off the Little Cypress-Mauriceville Lady Bears 56-46 in District 20-4A play at the Bear Cave Tuesday night.

Vidor’s Allison Jacks and Blair Richmond combined for 49 points as the Lady Pirates improved to 2-0 in 20-4A play.

Kayleigh Roy led the Lady Bears (8-9, 0-2) with a double-double, scoring 11 points while snagging 11 rebounds.

Guard Grace Chen pumped in a career-high 10 points for the Lady Bears. Tori Thompson had eight points and collected a team-high 13 rebounds. Tara Thompson chimed in with seven points while Cassidy Webster had six.

The Lady Bears hurt themselves at the free-throw line, going just 10-of-23.

The Lady Bears will travel to Buna Friday in non-district action while the Lady Pirates head to Nederland.

OF boys

ORANGEFIELD — The Orangefield Bobcats darted past the Evadale Rebels 56-41 Monday night in non-district action at Bobcat Gym.

Cody Angelle led the Bobcats (8-3) with 13 points while Carl Wiley chimed in with 11.

The Bobcats will hit the road Friday as they will travel to Big Sandy.
