Highlighted by a two-run home run by Kasey Frederick and a three-run double by Kelsey Fults, the Bridge City Lady Cardinals scooted past the West Orange-Stark Lady Mustangs 10-4 in District 21-3A softball action at Lady Cardinal Field Friday.
Kellyn Cormier took the win on the hill for the Lady Cardinals (19-7, 5-2). She pitched four innings of relief. She allowed three hits while striking out six. Fults started for BC. She worked three frames, allowing dive hits while fanning three.
The Lady Mustangs (12-8, 1-6) actually outhit BC 8-7. Mallory Jackson pitched for WO-S. She worked for six innings, allowing seven hits while walking seven with no strikeouts.
WO-S went upm 2-0 in the top of the first.
Marlaysia Davis had an ninfield single and Jara Edwards hit into a fielder’s choice, forcing Davis out at second. Markia Davis followed with a single to left and Madison Neal brought in two runs with a single to right.
BC got to within one in the bottom of the inning.
Faith Kaufman had a single to left and Cormier had a bunt single and Kaufman eventually scored on a wild pitch.
BC tied it in the bottom of the second. Bailee Bacon drew a walk, swiped second and raced in to score on a Cormier sharp single to left.
The Lady Cardinals went ahead with a five-run fourth inning. Skylar Kahla opened with a double to left, moved to third on a Hannah Faulk sac bunt and scored on a wild pitch.
Kaufman reached on an error and Cormier and Hannah Carpenter drew consecutive walks and Kfredick drew a bases-loaded walk to plate a run. Fults then promptly cranked her three-run double to left.
WO-S struck for two runs in the top half of the fifth.
Marlaysia Davis was hit by a pitch and Jara Edwards singled to center. Neal had a single to center to load the bases and Elecia Barlow hit a grounder that was misfielded and BC made two errors on the play that allowed two runs to cross.
In the bottom of the fifth, Faulk had a one-out double to left-center and scored when Bacon grounded out as she scored on an errant pickoff attempt at third.
The Lady Cardinals capped the win in the sixth when Carpenter walked and Frederick blasted a two-run shot over the leftfield wall.
The Lady Cardinals will venture to Orangefield at 4:30 p.m. Monday for a big 21-3A showdown while the Lady Mustangs will return home to host SIlsbee at 4:30 p.m.
