BRIDGE CITY —
Bridge City split a pair of games Friday.
The Cardinals defeated Vidor 64-61 and fell to the Australian Varsity Team 72-56.
Against Vidor, Bryce Sampere connected on seven three-pointers to lead the Cardinals with 25 points while Tanner Cervenka poured in 18 points. Grant Allen led Vidor with 15 points.
The Cardinals got outrebounded by the Aussies 42-20 in their loss.
Byron Bacon led the Cardinals with 12 points as he drained four three-pointers while Cervenka chimed in with 11 points and six rebounds.
Van Merbin led the Aussies with 16 points and 12 rebounds. Michael Wearne also had 16 points while Kristian Zjak had 12 and Lochlan McDonald added 11.
In other games at the tourney Friday, Orangefield defeated the Austrailian JV Team 42-20; Cornsicana downed the Australian Varsity 51-47; New Caney Porter defeated Liberty 55-53; and Liberty toppled the Australian JV 66-46.
LC-M and WO-S picked up a pair of wins at the tourney Thursday.
The Bears defeated Orangefield 40-24 in their first game of the day and then defeated the Australian Varsity Team 50-39.
Meanwhile, the Mustangs escaped past Vidor 59-54 and drilled New Caney Porter 69-29.
Paige led the Mustangs against Vidor, scoring 17 points. Joubert chimed in with 13 points while Rutledge added 10. Allen fired in 24 points to pace the Pirates.
The Mustangs dominated New Caney Porter by forcing 35 turnovers as they jumped out to a 30-15 edge at halftime and never looked back.
Paige led the way with 16 points and added seven rebounds. Joubert filtered in 15 points. Post Tyrant Thompson had a double-double, scoring 10 points while also grabbing 10 rebounds while Cory Carcisse added seven points and six boards. Andrew Burrows led Porter with eight points.
The Bears outscored Orangefield 25-9 in the first half to cruise to the victory.
Robertson led the Bears with 13 points. Caleb Harley had nine points and Fuss contributed eight.
Levi Shores paced the Bobcat attack with 10 points.
Against the Australian Varsity, Peveto led the LC-M attack with 17 points. Trumaine Elmore filtered in 11 points while Robertson had nine and Wendt added eight. Wearne led Australia with 18.
