Lady Bears do 'Yard-work' against Raiders

LITTLE CYPRESS — It was a perfect Senior Night for the Little Cypress-Mauriceville Lady Bears against Lumberton Tuesday night, especially for seniors Haley Mills and Taylor Fraccastoro.

Both of them hit two line-drive home runs apiece to help the Lady Bears ease past the Lady Raiders 7-1 in District 20-4A play at Lady Bear Field.

Mills led off the bottom of the first with a blast over the leftfield fence off Lumberton starter Maddi Ohler. With one out, Fraccastoro followed suit by cranking a Ohler offering over the centerfield fence for a 2-0 edge.

Mills hit a two-run shot over the leftfield wall in the bottom of the second after Morgan Babineaux had reached on an error.

LC-M (22-6, 10-2) tacked on two more runs in the third. After Angel Villanueva drew a leadoff walk, Kayla Manuel drove her home with a crushing double to rightfield.

Babineaux drew a walk and Mikaela Stegall singled and Fraccastoro drew a bases-loaded walk to net a RBI.

Lumberton squeezed out a run off Lady Bear ace in the top of the fifth. Hailey Ferguson reached on a two-out bunt single and scored off a Paige Duhon sharp double to left.

Russell hurled all seven innings for LC-M as she allowed six hits while striking out three and walking one. She also had a double in the second inning.

Fraccastoro accounted for the last run of the night in the sixth when she cranked a pitch from Lady Raider reliever Taylor Verinsky over the rightfield fence for LC-M’s fourth dinger of the might.

In her last eight at-bats, Fraccastoro has eight hits including the two homers, four triples, a double and a single. LC-M had nine hits on the night. Blythe Ferguson had a single in the first inning.

The Lady Bears return to action Friday when they visit Beaumont Central.
