Bobcats will try to ground out Hawks

After dominating Hamshire-Fannett with a “mean” running game, the Orangefield Bobcats look will try to attempt it again in facing the Hardin-Jefferson Hawks for Homecoming Friday night in District 21-3A action.

The Bobcats (2-4, 1-1) drilled H-F 54-28 last week, amassing 590 yards on the ground while the Hawks (3-2, 0-1) opened district with a 49-0 loss to sixth-ranked West Orange-Stark.

Orangefield has piled up 2,013 yards on the ground in just six games. Tailback Carl Wiley, who had 257 yards alone against H-F, leads the way with 713 yards and seven touchdowns on 103 carries.

Bobcat quarterback Eric Truncale bounced back from an injury last week and has rumbled for 474 yards and four TDs on 61 carries. Running back Tyron Como has played big of late and has 327 yards and three TDs on 46 carries.

The Hawks look to get it back in gear after gaining just 73 yards of total offense against WO-S.

H-J quarterback Jared Gieseke has completed 38-of-87 passes for 447 yards with two touchdowns and five interceptions.

Gieseke’s favorite targets have been receivers Andrew Martel (15-257-1) and Dylan Vannoy (15-148-1).

Coy Draper leads the Hawk ground attack with 158 yards on 47 carries. Gieseke has rushed for 107 yards and four TDs on 68 carries.

The Bobcats will head to WO-S to face the Mustangs next week while the Hawks return home to face the Buna Cougars.
