State football title tilts all set

ORANGE — The Carthage Bulldogs will be looking for their fourth state title in three years when they take on Kilgore for the Class 3A Division I Championship Friday at noon in Dallas.

The Bulldogs (14-1) can make the West Orange-Stark Mustangs feel really good if they could walk away with a state crown.

The Bulldogs got all they could handle from a young WO-S (11-2) team in the Region III Finals before they prevailed 28-14 in a much closer game than the final score indicated.

Carthage defeated LaGrange 51-22 in the state semifinals last week while Kilgore blasted defending state champion Stephenville 44-6.

Carthage won three state titles from 2008 to 2010 defeating Celina 49-37, Graham 13-12 and Coldspring 47-22 respectively.

The game will be shown live on Fox SportsNet Friday at noon.

All of the state championship games will be played in Arlington’s AT&T Stadium in Dallas.

The Class 4A Division I game will have Denton Guyer (13-2) tangling with San Antonio Northside Brennan (15-0) at 8 p.m.

On Saturday, Aledo (15-0) will meet Brenham (14-1) at noon in the Class 4A DIvision II Championship.
