The Bridge City Lady Cardinals are getting closer to the District 21-3A softball crown after they squeezed out a pair of runs on a two-run error in the top of the eighth inning to topple the Silsbee Lady Tigers 6-4 in a battle of teams that were tied for first-place going in.
The win pushes the Lady Cardinals to 9-1 in 21-3A play while SIlsbee dropped to 8-2.
Anne Borg put the Lady Cardinals up 4-2 with a huge two-run double in the top of the third. Borg went 3-for-4 with two doubles and three runs batted in. Kasey Frederick was 2-for-4 with a double, a RBI and scored twice.
The Lady Tigers rallied in the bottom of the seventh when Kaitlin Kerl roped a two-run triple to tie things up.
Kellyn Cormier pitched superbly for the Lady Cardinals, going the distance and scattering three hits while striking out seven and walking two.
The Lady Cardinals will try to make a clean sweep along with the district title before the playoffs start when they visit both Hamshire-Fannett on Tuesday and Hardin-Jefferson on Friday to wrap up the 21-3A regular season.
