Cardinals, Tigers get respect in 3A baseball poll

ORANGE — High school baseball might still be a little more than a month away from its official start but a couple powerful teams out of District 21-3A find themselves in the Class 3A Preseason state poll via Texas High School Baseball Magazine.

Defending 21-3A champion and state semifinalist Silsbee is ranked No. 4 while Bridge City, led by Coach Chad Landry, is ranked No. 11.

Both teams return a qulity number of starters as they look to punch their repesctive playoff tickets once again.

Landry will welcome back a plethora of talent from a team that advanced to the area round of the postseason last year.

Chase Shugart, The Most Valuable Player on the All-Orange Leader Team and First Team all-district selection at third base, is back in the mix.

Also, all-district designated hitter and catcher Hunter Uzzle, who signs with Panola Junior College today, returns along with a all-district outfield that consists of Keaton Langston, Ashton Hunter and Blaine Huff are each back, looking for another outstanding campaign.

Other key contributors should include Blake Pruett, Blaine McElduff, Bryson McFarland, Jonah Watts, Sage Elmore and Wayne Currie.

The Cardinals open their season Feb. 17 at home against Beaumont Kelly.

Both Bridge City and Silsbee has plenty of company from a tough Region III in the poll including the No. 1 College Station Cougars, No. 3 Caldwell, No. 6 Carthage, No. 13 Robinson, and No. 15 Diboll.

No local teams were ranked in the 5A or 4A polls.

Cy Ranch is No. 1 in 5A while Moody is No. 1 in 4A.
