HOOP WRAP: BC girls survive H-J; LC-M, WO-S boys win

ORANGE — H-J boys 77, BC 46

BRIDGE CITY — The Hardin-Jefferson Hawks downed the Bridge City Cardinals 77-46 at Cardinal Gym Friday night in District 21-3A play.

The Hawks jumped out to a 24-11 lead and led 45-25 at intermission.

Post Alex Bingham paced the Cardinals (11-12, 0-4) with 14 points.

Brett Philpott filtered in nine points while Byron Bacon had eight and Kyle Bergeron added six.

Zjori Bosha led the Hawks with 20 points with Michael Saladin adding 11.

The Cardinals will visit West Orange-Stark Tuesday.

Buna girls 64, WO-S 60

WEST ORANGE — The West Orange-Stark Lady Mustangs battled hard Friday night but came up just short, falling to the Buna Lady Cougars 64-60 in District 21-3A play at Mustang Gym.

The game was nip-and-tuck throughout and was tied 22-22 at the half.

Buna (4-2 in 21-3A play) outscored the Lady Mustangs (11-12, 1-5) 19-17 in the third period and 23-21 in the fourth as they escaped with the road win.

Derriasha Daughtery led the Lady Mustang attack, scoring 20 points while connecting on three three-pointers.

Breanna Preston filtered in 17 points. Eriel Jordan tallied 12 points, had eight rebounds and blocked six shots. Nakaiya Platt filled up the stat sheet for Coach Randy Ragsdale as she finished with eight points, 11 rebounds, six steals and five blocked shots.

The Lady Mustangs will look to rebound Tuesday when they visit Orange County rival Bridge City.

H-F boys 70, BC 56

HAMSHIRE — The Hamshire-Fannett Longhorns downed the Bridge City Cardinals 70-56 in District 21-3A play last Tuesday night.

The Longhorns jumped out to a 34-16 halftime edge and held off the Cardinals in the second half.

Kyle Bergeron led the Cardinals with a game-high 25 points.

Ozen girls 52, LC-M 42

The Lady Bears dropped a tough 52-42 decision at first-place Beaumont Ozen on Tuesday night.

Cassidy Webster lead the Lady Bears with 11 points and piled up 10 steals. Tori Thompson had a double-double as well, scoring 10 points while snagging 12 rebounds.

Maddie Frey added six points while Malayzia Winbush contributed nine rebounds.

The Lady Bears were down 20-6 in the first quarter but eventually rallied to trim the margin to just two points but 34 turnovers eventually proved too costly.
