The Bridge City Lady Cardinals pulled a rabbit out of the hat Friday night as they pulled out a dramatic 56-52 double overtime victory over the Hardin-Jefferson Lady Hawks in District 21-3A play at Hawks Gym.
The Lady Cardinals (24-4, 5-1) trailed the Lady Hawks 42-39 but guard Bailee Bacon hit a desperation three-pointer from halfcourt to force the game into overtime.
The two stayed even after the first overtime at 49-49. Despite having both Bacon and point guard Caylin Choate both foul out in missing the last overtime period, the Lady Cardinals got enough out of both Alexus Henry and Kelsey Fults to pull out the win.
Henry pumped in a team-high 23 points and snagged six rebounds. Fults put together another double-double, scoring 16 points while snagging 10 rebounds.
The Lady Cardinals trailed 21-16 at the half and dropped behind 35-27 in the third period before closing regulation with a 15-7 spurt.
The Lady Cardinals return home Tuesday to tangle with Orange County rival West Orange-Stark.
LC-M boys 43, Lumberton 38
LUMBERTON — The Little Cypress-Mauriceville Bears went on the road Friday night and picked up a scrappy 43-38 win over Lumberton at Raiders Gym.
The Bears (15-9, 4-1) trailed the Raiders (3-2 in district) 21-19 at the half but the set the tone after intermission, going on a 11-6 spurt in the third quarter to take a three-point lead and then they went on to hang on for the win.
Jace Robertson led the Bear attack with 16 points. Trumaine Elmore chimed in with 11 points while Blake Fuss scored seven and Taylor Peveto added six.
Larry Spence led the Raiders with 10 points while Dusty Rhodes added eight.
The Bears will play host to Class 4A’s No. 1-ranked team in the Beaumont Central Jaguars Tuesday.
The Jaguars throttled Livingston 97-21 Friday night. Also, Beaumont Ozen edged out Nederland 40-39 on Tuesday.
WO-S boys 76, Buna 50
BUNA — West Orange-Stark had no trouble on the road Friday night as they turned back the Buna Cougars 76-50 to stay perfect on the District 21-3A season.
The Mustangs led 13-8 at the end of the first period and then went on a 27-11 explosion in the second to lead comfortably 40-19 at intermission.
Laquarious Paige led the Mustangs (17-7, 4-0) with 21 points.
Deionte Thompson poured in 12 points while Brandon Joubert and Tavin Terrell added 10 points apiece.
The Mustangs return home Tuesday to face Bridge City.
