Cardinals, Mustangs finish off BC Basketball Tourney

BRIDGE CITY Beaumont Central grabbed the Bridge City Basketball Tournament championship with a 5-0 mark Wednesday as holiday hoops came to a close.

Central secured the title with a 44-30 win over Vidor despite 13 points from the Pirates’ Jared Williamson.

The Jaguars raced out to a 12-6 lead before leading 21-15 half-time lead.

Central then outscored Vidor 22-15 in the second half to make sure the Pirates did not rally.

Vidor also lost a game to Santa Fe, Santa Fe was schedule to play Richard Milburn Academy who did not show up Wednesday.

Vidor played bench players during the game and lost 37-23.

The host Bridge City Cardinals dropped a pair of games Wednesday, first to Santa Fe and then to Jasper.

Bridge City (13-9) fell behind early to Santa Fe and could not recover.

Santa Fe was up 7-3 after the first frame and led 18-12 at the break.

The Cardinals outscored Santa Fe 11-7 in the third period as the visitors led 25-23 heading into the fourth.

Bridge City could not get over the hump as Santa Fe outscored the Cardinals 17-11 in the fourth.

Nate McAnelly led the Cardinals with 11 points while Tanner Girouard put in 10 points.

The Cardinals then lost to the Jasper Bulldogs who had six players in double figures.

Jasper won 97-41 behind Dominique Bailey and Stubblefield. Kwame Spikes finished with 15 points, Ellis had 16, Bronson finished with 14 and Walker added 10.

The Cardinals were led by nine points from Justin Reynolds and Girouard finished with eight.

The Bulldogs led 32-11 after the first period and took a 52-25 advantage into the break.

Jasper outscored Bridge City 45-16 in the second half to secure the victory.

The West Orange-Stark Mustangs needed overtime to defeated the Legacy Warriors who needed a last-second three-pointer to tie up the Mustangs.

The Mustangs, who got 13 points from Darius Davis, outscored the Warriors 9-4 in the overtime period.

The game was tied at 43 at the end of regulation.

Donte Green added 12 for the Mustangs while Quest Watson put in 8 points in the victory.

WO-S held a 16-11 lead after the first period and took a 25-17 advantage into half-time.

Both teams put up 16 in the third and then Legacy outscored WO-S 10-3 in the fourth.

It would be the only game of the day for the Mustangs who were schedule to face Huffman at 3 p.m. Wednesday.

After Jasper defeated the Falcons 66-51, the Huffman head coach decided to call it a tournament.

WO-S Head Coach Zack Quinn tried to persuade the Falcons to stay and play the game yet the final answer was “no.”

Port Neches-Groves ended its tournament with an 80-40 stomping of the Liberty Panthers.

Travis Weathersbee finished the game with 19 points while Brennan Doty added 15.

The Indians cruised to a 22-11 lead after the first and then led 49-22 at the break.

PN-G (9-9) did not let up after the break as the Indians outscored the Panthers 31-18 in the second half.

Dylan Berwick had 12 points in the win while Brent Pham finished with 11 points.

PN-G will travel to Nederland this Tuesday.
