Lady Cardinal seniors share insight to each other

BRIDGE CITY They have known each other for almost all their lives and been playing volleyball for nearly as long.

The four seniors for the Bridge City Lady Cardinals are an unique bunch that is now having tremendous success.

They are 10-1 in District 21-3A play and tied for first place along with the Silsbee Lady Tigers. Bridge City will face Hamshire-Fannett tonight on the road at Longhorn Gym.

From Kayla Fullerton to Lauren Angelle and from Jenna Angelle to Audrey Myers, the Lady Cardinals are having some fun this season.

Besides playing volleyball, the foursome spend time together off the court.

Then given the chance to talk about one other and their eyes light up.

The four split up into partners before each game to warm up and do the same during practices.

Fullerton and Lauren Angelle always find each other while Myers and Jenna Angelle do the same.

It has been that way since the seventh grade.

“Lauren is a very good partner,” Fullerton said. “She has been my partner since seventh grade and my best friend since third grade. We make each other work very hard during volleyball and never let each other slack.”

The partnership is not just one-way.

Lauren Angelle has equal fun sharing duties with Fullerton and making sure the duo is ready for each match.

“She is so serious but cracks me up sometimes,” Lauren Angelle said. “She has amazing serves and helps with the blocks and the sets. Nobody can ever read her on the hits because she is left handed. When I get made she is the one that tells me to just laugh it off. She hustles and she is very competitive.”

Fullerton is not the only one who is competitive.

“We are great at taking constructive criticism from each other,” Fullerton added. “Lauren makes good passes and has good hits and digs. She is very competitive and is always in the match. She justs wants to win.”

Jenna Angelle knows when her partner, Myers, is on her game the Lady Cardinals have the best shot of winning each Tuesday and Friday nights.

“Well obviously she brings a lot of points to the board,” Jenna Angelle said. “She is a really, really good hitter. It has been fun to be her partner forever. It feels like forever. Audrey has a great attitude and hates to lose. She is competitive just like me.”

Sizing up what Jenna Angelle brings to the table was quite easy for Myers as Jenna Angelle has become one of the best defensive players in Southeast Texas.

“Her defense is simply amazing,” Myers said of her partner. “Jenna is very loyal, trustworthy and a wonderful friend. Jenna and her sister are probably the most competitive two on this team. Jenna is a great partner to have and is really easy to work with.”

So the partners will team up with the rest of the Lady Cardinals and are still looking towards winning the District 21-3A championship — plus have a little fun along the way.
