OCARC to host 21st fishing tourney

It is usually always grand and it brings out a lot of family fun.

This year the OCARC Fishing Tournament is entering its 21st year in putting together one of the best fishing tournaments ever.

This year’s tournament will be held Aug. 1-2 for all of the local fishing fanatics that love to mingle as well.

The beloved tournament has turned out to be the biggest tournaments ˙eld in Orange County each year and is one of the largest tournaments held in the ˝olden Triangle each year.

The competition field has nearly tripled since that opening year as fishermen have come out in droves.

The clients at the OCARC not only benefit from the event, they are also right in the mix, preparing things for the tournament, basically growing up with the event.

Kids of all ages have made an impact on the tournament as adults do, spending quality time with their parents and friends on local waterways.

The entry fee is $25 per competitor. The weigh-in site, as always, will be at Adams Bayou at the DERA on Irving Street. The fun will start at 5 p.m. Aug. 1 and the weigh-in will begin at 6 p.m. Aug. 2.

A lot of the folks have just as much fun at the weigh-in as they do fishing and the genreral public is invited to the weigh-in.

There will be a $2,700 payout in 11 categories during the weigh-in.

The big-winner categories include Speckled trot, Red Fish, Flounder and Bass. Each first-place winner will win $250. Second place will earn $100 and third-place will garner $50.

Other divisions include White perch, Catfish, Croaker, Grinnel, Rough Fish and Gar. First-place in those categories will garner the winners $100. Second-place will earn $50 and third-place will nab $25. Also, there is the traditional ‘Don Hubbard” Mudcat, with the winner of that class receiving $50.
