WO-S reaches area round

SHEPHERD — The West Orange-Stark Lady Mustangs advanced to the area round of the playoffs for the first time in school history by roughing up the Shepherd Lady Pirates 9-1 in Game Two of their best-of-three Class 3A Region III bidistrict playoff series Friday night at Shepherd High School.

The Lady Mustangs (22-9) used a big five-run third inning and tallied two more runs in both the fourth and sixth frames to roll past the Lady Pirates (18-12), who scored their only run of the game after two Lady Mustang errors in the first inning.

WO-S junior ace Rebekah Ragsdale hurled a complete-game one-hitter with the only Shepherd hit coming with two outs in the bottom of the seventh. Ragsdale finished with 10 strikeouts.

The Lady Mustang offense was hot throughout, pounding out 12 hits.

Amanda Villadsen went 2-for-4 with a double. She drove in two runs and also scored.

Lauryn Windham went 2-for-4 and scored a run. Cayla Adams was 2-for-4 while Amanda Ulbrich went 2-for-3.

Ragsdale had a single, drove in a run and scored twice. Kristin LeBouef singled, drove in a run and scored twice. Taylor Jaynes singled and tallied two runs and Keli Bilbo added a hit.

Th Lady Mustangs will tangle with West Columbia, which won the 3A state title in 2006, in the 3A Region III area round next week.
