LC-M Legacy Park opening Tuesday
Special to The Leader
The Little Cypress-Mauriceville Education Foundation, Inc. will host a ribbon cutting for Legacy Park, the memorial park surrounding the big bear located at the LC-M Administration Building, 6586 FM 1130. It will be held on June 2, at 5:30 p.m.
The first order of engraved bricks were laid by Frey’s Landscaping earlier this semester, and the bear has a fresh coat of paint, just in time for the official opening of the park. Foundation Board members welcome the public and are hoping for a large turnout for the event.
The park is a project of the LC-M Foundation, and has been paid for through the sale of engraved bricks and gifts designated for that purpose. Brick sales are on-going and may be made by completing an order form found on the LC-M website, http://www.lcmcisd.org/pr/foundation/legacypark.pdf, or by picking up an order form at the LC-M Administration Building. Attendees will be able to purchase bricks at the dedication.
Besides the bear, brick, and benches that were donated, the park now features two concrete urns flanking the bear that were saved when the old Mauriceville School was torn down. Because of its design, the old building was affectionately known as “The Alamo.” The Foundation is a not-for-profit organization, which provides grants to educators throughout the LC-M District. Over $60,000 in grants have been given since the Foundation’s inception in 2002.
