Laura and Julian Danner got up out of bed Friday morning and attempted to start their day just like any other.
However, when they looked outside, they noticed something was dramatically different. The red pickup truck that Julian Danner used for work was missing from the driveway. They had last seen the truck the night before at about 9:45 p.m.
The West Orange Police Department was called and an officer arrived about 6 a.m. at their residence on Crabtree Street. As the officer was taking the report, he was informed over the radio the truck may have been found.
The Danners went to where the truck was located. It was near the base of the Rainbow Bridge on Highway 87 where people are often seen crabbing and fishing.
The red truck which was partially submersed in the murky water was identified as the one which had been parked in their driveway just a few hours before.
It appeared someone had climbed out of the open window after it went into the water, Laura Danner said.
The truck has an estimated value of $4,800. However, according to Julian Danner, the back of the pickup contained about $20,000 in tools and a welding machine torch. In addition there now was an empty box which had contained an air conditioning unit before it was stolen, he said.
The case is still under investigation.
Investigators are asking anyone with information to call EasTex Crime Stoppers at 409-724-TIPS. Information received could earn the person a cash reward and they can remain anonymous.
