OISD early voting ends with record turnout

ORANGEFIELD — A record turnout for early voting has occurred in the Orangefield Independent School District.

A total of 89 ballots were submitted by district residents on Friday, the end of early voting, which brings the early voting total to 644 votes at its conclusion. This is more than double the average turnout in any election, especially in this year’s race which features four seats on the Orangefield ISD Board of Trustees.

A total of nine candidates will battle it out for four school board positions.

Seats up for grabs include Place I, Place III, Place VI and Place VII. Incumbents Donna Gail Ford, Place I; Susan Gunstream, Place VI and Thad Angelle, Place VII, have opted not to seek re-election.

Candidates seeking the Place I position include 40-year-old Juan Gonzales Jr., and Van H. “Bo” Henley” who is 50.

Place III Incumbent Nancy Ashworth, 41, has filed to retain her seat on the Board of Trustees. She will be opposed by 63-year-old Jesse B. Fremont.

Candidates Ronald K. Risinger, 49, and Johnny Dorman, 62, are both seeking election to the Place VI seat.

The Place VII seat will have three candidates seeking election this November in 43-year-old Brad Frye, 45-year-old Richard Durkin and 36-year-old Jason Guidroz.

Election day is from 7 a.m. - 7 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 6. Voters will fill out a separate ballot for the Orangefield ISD school board election from the regular November general election ballot.
