Late filings add to City of Vidor election

VIDOR — The City of Vidor will have a bigger election than previously reported this May.

Last minute filings, literally, will now feature five candidates seeking two seats on Vidor City Council in the May general election.

Information received after deadline included two last minute additions to the May 10 ballot.

Incumbent Jay Odom submitted his application for re-election to the Ward 2 seat late Friday, as did new candidate George Turner. Matt Ortego, a former city councilman, submitted his application for candidacy on Feb. 27 and the three men will face off in May.

Another last minute addition to the ballot is Rusty Morris, who will challenge incumbent Jason Woodard for the Ward 3 position in May.

Gary Herrera, the Ward 5 councilman for the City of Vidor, will run unopposed in the May 10 election.

The filing deadline was at 5 p.m., Friday, Feb. 28. The early voting period is Monday, April 28 through Tuesday, May 6, and election day is Saturday, May 10.
