Orange County Commissioners Court to hold public hearing Monday

ORANGE — Orange County Commissioners Court is moving forward to meet the requirements for the receive $400,000 in grant funds for roads throughout the county.

The court has scheduled a public hearing 1 p.m. Monday at the Orange County Administration Building, 123 South 6th Street, Orange, to discuss the intent to consider creating a County Energy Transportation Reinvestment Zone (CERTZ) as required by Texas Transportation Code 222.1071.

An energy zone is required to qualify for the grant, however the growth in taxes in the zone would be used for the program without affecting the tax base.

The public hearing will also address whether or not to create one or more CERTZ to promote one or more infrastructure projects to be located within the county to be funded by the CERTZ.

The court will vote on the matter in the special court session at 2 p.m. following the public hearing.

The grant has a 20% match. The matching funds would cost the county $80,000. However, as other counties are disqualified from the grant, the amount the county could receive rises.

Deadline for the applications for the grant is February 14, 2014.
